Now this building knows a lot about Fleetwood. Almost as much as me.
Hello, I’m Fleet, the best informed dog in Fleetwood.
This building used to be a Customs House, then it was the Town Hall, and now it’s the Museum, and one of the best places to discover stories about Fleetwood. Make sure you keep an eye out for the secret boat hidden in the back!
Cod fishing was how the town made its money! That’s why a person from Fleetwood is known as a “cod head”! And they worked on the docks with people knows as "lumpers". Did you know that? Funny names, eh?
Life for fishermen was hard, but it was even harder when the fish started disappearing. Because of new technologies that helped the fishermen catch more and more fish each time they went out, the numbers of fish in our seas started crashing because the fish didn’t have enough time to grow and make new fish before being caught.
By the 1990s many fishermen had sold their boats and that was the end of the industry in Fleetwood.
This place is always packed with storytellers – they just love to talk about the people, places, and things that remind us of Fleetwood’s past and help us explore some very strange corners of history.
