Stop 1: Rossall Point

People, Birds, and Dogs - There's Room for Everyone! Take me here now

Len Blacow, local bird watcher, talks about birds at Rossall Point.

'Look Up Look Down' with Len Blacow

The Coast and countryside are for everyone, and their dogs!

The coast is a popular walking route for visitors and locals, but at certain times of the year we ask that dogs are kept on a lead along some stretches of the beach.

Why?

Many people may not realise the impact of disturbing flocks of wintering birds. If nests are disturbed, birds like Ringed Plovers will not breed and their numbers will decline. Wading birds may die prematurely due to using all their energy to fly away from dogs and people during the harsh, lean Winter months when they are feeding to store-up energy for their long migrations in the Spring.

Many of these birds are so well camouflaged that you would not know they were there. For more information about which birds you can spot at Rossall Point, click here.
